¡Hola, amigos!
This list of banned food mascots in Mexico used to show on cereal boxes, snacks, chocolate powder, and cookies. Some of them are still visible in products that don’t have any unhealthy ingredient excess. I also added the catchy phrases of the mascots that had one.
Reasons Mexico vanished mascots from cereal boxes.
Tigre Toño
Tigre Toño’s catchy phrase was: Rrrrriquísimas (Delicious).
Melvin
Melvin the elephant on Choco Krispis. (“Choco Krispies” in other regions).
Sam el tucán on Fruti Lupis
The name of this cereal varies from the English one so it makes more sense. Still, the word “loop” doesn’t make any sense in Spanish as the translation for it is “bucle”.
Rana de Honey Smacks
This mascot doesn’t really have a name, but we call it the Rana (frog).
Pancho Pantera
This strong kid used to show on Choco Milk chocolate powder. Pancho Pantera (Panther Pancho) usually told the benefits of drinking Choco Milk to starving and weak kids.
Nes Quick
The rabbit showed on Nesquik cereal boxes, chocolate syrup, and chocolate powder.
Osito Bimbo
Osito Bimbo’s catchy phrase is “Recuérdame” (Remember me). This mascot showed on all Bimbo products. Nowadays it just features on their healthy products.
Maguito Sonrics
The mascot of Sonrics candies (Little Wizzard), such as Rocka Leta, Goodu Pop and Tix Tix. In commercials, he performed some tricks with his wand.
Mamut
A huge Mamut used to be part of this cookie filled with marshmallow and covered in chocolate.
Chocotorro
This parrot used to be part of this chocolate cake filled with strawberry jam and covered in strawberry frosting and chocolate sprinkles. The name of the cake is a mix of parrot (cotorro) and chocolate.
